8 Common Tech Support Problems And How to Avoid Them

All of us have probably had a moment where we wanted to pick up our computer and just throw it out the window. People often complain about pretty much the same things over and over all the time on their computers whether it's that ancient laptop that your dad got when he got his first job and passed it down to you or custom finish gaming PC that you imported straight from the main factory in Japan. You'll face these problems time and time again and here are a few hacks that'll help you get over these problems in a snap (sometimes).

1. "I can’t log in"

It's almost never your computer's fault in this scenario. Sometimes it's the all-to-common "I forgot to switch off my CAPS-lock button" gimmick but at times you could get suspended for many reasons. If you're at work it's probably because you spent too much of the company's Wi-Fi playing FarmVille or Injustice(if you're the more macho type) all day. Check with your boss and they'll tell you. Maybe they're even waiting for you. Just kidding. Phew. Or am I?

2. "I accidentally deleted some files. Can I get them back?"

In this situation, prevention is the best cure. I don't mean don't delete stuff at all; I mean avoid "Shift-deleting" files and always emptying the recycle bin when you get bored. However, if you've already permanently deleted these files, you can still get them back. Go to the original folder where the file was, right-click it and select "Restore Previous Versions". You might be able to retrieve it. But if you were really determined to delete that file you might consider getting apps like Recuva which can help you find deleted files tucked away deep within your computer.(Yes, they're not always gone forever)

3. My computer is too slow.

So maybe currently you have 16 windows open on your browser and the entire Adobe Master Collection running in the background but you still go on ahead and curse out your computer anyway. "This stupid thing won't work anymore! I think it's time to get a new one.". Before you do that now, always consider how much RAM is currently being used by your computer. Go to "My Computer" and right click anywhere; select properties and see how much is free. If maybe 500MB is free you're probably overworking the poor thing. Close some windows, shut down those apps you aren't currently using and voila! Easy as can be.

4. My computer shut down for no good reason.

Actually, yes it does have a good reason. You might want to consider one of the few things first. If there is a mystical landscape of dust currently living inside your computer's cooling system and you need to get it cleaned out, urgently. It's a common phenomenon among computers to overheat and when they do they try and prevent the possible risk of self-destruction. Another possible cause is that your battery is absolutely fried and you tripped over the power cable (happens to the best of us).

5. The printer won’t work.

Switch it on. Most people forget to do that. Most of us probably never switch them off but just like the PC above they have a lot of reasons for shutting down. Believe it or not, this is one of the major reasons why people call tech support. Another case is likely that other the drivers were accidentally deleted, changed removed or outdated. Always try and keep them out to date and fully functional.

6. My computer is making a grinding noise.

Some hard drives are designed to make sounds when a spindle gets stuck or heads go bad. Some hard drives for really old computers actually sometimes just make that noise when they get overworked. Perfectly normal. However always determine the source to whether it is a major or minor problem.

7. The internet is slow.

Two of the main problems that cause this are viruses and spyware. Very rarely it is also malware. Installing a good antivirus is also a good way to make sure you get the problem at the source. Some instances, however, the solution isn't that complicated. At times, you may have moved too far from the router or your internet provider maybe be facing some technical difficulties. Sometimes your internet service package doesn't go up to the speeds you want it to go. Always check the virus updates, the number of bars on the tiny little Wi-Fi icon and also the internet speed on your data package

8. My computer won’t recognize my USB device.

Probably the best solution is to restart your computer. Be sure to unplug the device first and if that doesn't work try a different PC and if that doesn't work unplug other USB devices currently on your PC. Still not working? Well, here's when it gets kind of tricky. Open Device Manager. Find Universal Serial Bus controllers option and single click it to expand. Find USB Root Hub option under this category. Right-click it and choose Properties. Go to Power Management tab and uncheck the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power option. Then click OK to save your change. That probably did the trick, right?

So there you have it, a handy list of quick fixes when your computer starts giving you headaches. If it ever bothers you again, hit it ith this. Let's try it out, shall we?
