First of all, what is a pyramid scheme? In simple terms, according to Wikipedia, a pyramid scheme is a form of investment (illegal in the UK and elsewhere) in which each paying participant recruits two further participants, with returns being given to early participants using money contributed by later ones. As recruiting multiplies, recruiting becomes quickly impossible, and most members are unable to profit; as such, pyramid schemes are unsustainable and often illegal. The more people that people recruit the more it is likely to collapse and thus many people often lose their profit. Okay, so now we know what a pyramid scheme is. Now we need to know what to look out for so that we don't get caught up in one.
1. Pyramid schemes often have no actual products or services that they sell or provide. Most pyramid schemes can hide behind a common cause such as the money being for charity work and many other reasons that people love to throw their money at.
2. The entire base of making profits is solely rested on recruiting more and more people and not on doing any actual work. Pyramid schemes never actually give a platform to its members to go out into the field and carry out actions that the organization claims to stand for. All you need to do is keep recruiting more and more people.
3. They offer you ranks which in the long run... tend to be kind of useless. The higher you go up the pyramid, the more you adopt titles which show your superiority. You may get some benefits and they lure you with these benefits, nut the real winner is always at the top.
In some countries, this act is illegal because in the end, someone is always going to lose out and you never know when it's going to be your turn. So far there have been many pyramid scheme scandals including the one for the Helping Hands organization which many are still falling for to this day. Try by all means to keep yourself protected because one day this knowledge might actually keep you safe from harm
