The good part about it is that it can be done even with your mobile phone. Most time lapses involve the camera sitting perfectly still in a fixed position over a period of time so if your camera is going to be facing the sun, it is advised that you put a solar filter over your camera. This is unless of course, you are an Apple user, of which Apple says not to worry. In order to get a good time lapse, you will need a tripod stand and an adapter for your phone to the tripod. For $25 you can get yourself a good tripod and for less than $10 you can get yourself an adapter as well. Of course, you can make a time lapse without these but it comes with the risk of making a really shaky video. On the iPhone, the feature comes at the tail left after slo-mo in the camera app. Instagram also offers a time lapse feature in the app.
Always remember to position the camera horizontally in order to get a better shot and never vertically. In order to shoot a 2-minute time lapse video, you will have to record for at least 20 minutes. Soon enough you will have that all important video to capture your precious memories.
