How to avoid getting hacked

Many companies have fallen as a result of malevolent hackers and at times it may have been because of things which could easily have been avoided. Typically, anything on the internet can be hacked and people at times are left defenseless out of these “tiny” mistakes. Spam, anonymous emails, advertisements, links and sometimes even faulty passwords can be the result of a fatal attack. Whether it’s your company’s private data or protecting your elusive Instagram account, here are some of the things you can look out for to prevent priers for getting their fingers all over your precious information.

First of all, clicking open emails from sources that you are not familiar with is one mistake people make one time too often. The safest you can be at any given time is to click “Source Original” before you open any email you encounter. Hackers can sometimes send emails lathered with all sorts of viruses which can crash your computer or by pass any security measures they may encounter. One thing people must never tire of is looking over suspicious emails. Whilst you’re still logged also look out for attachments. It may be malware which is disguised as a suspiciously large Word document, or a virus posing as a harmless flyer for a cat show(if there is such a thing). Always look out for potential malware on your computer.

Probably one of the most overlooked things when it comes to preventing hacking is having a strong password. If your password is something which someone provided minimal information about you can guess then it’s not a good password. I remember once trying to access a song in someone’s ipod and I tried nearly every probably entry only to discover the password was: “[,.]-“. I would never have guessed it, and it worked. Good passwords consist of uppercase & lowercase characters or combinations which would be difficult to guess in most cases. We’d all love put our pet goldfish or our current girlfriend/boyfriend as our password but that leaves us only more prone to attacks from hackers.

There’s probably a million other ways to prevent hacking on your computer but believe it or not, this is the way most people get hacked in real life and at times it leads to ruin on the part of their careers or personal/social lives. Doing these small but essential things goes a long way to making sure you will never get hacked.
