3 local apps that all Zimbabweans should try

Forget that people don’t consider us “giants” when talking about tech. You might be pleased to discover that several developers in the country have made strides in developing the face of our tech industry and you might be amused by the results. Roam in the Google play Store for a bit and you will encounter an incredible array of apps that are specifically targeted for Zimbabweans. Here’s a list of our own home-grown apps available for pretty much every Android user out there.

1. OyOsMusic – Introducing Zimbabwe’s first ever online music store. This is an online music platform which allows Zimbabweans to download music from a playlist of over 6000 songs from over a hundred local artists. The brand was developed by its mother company ZIMHOST Web designers and launched on Star FM on the 14th of February. If you have a single bone in your body that moves to the sound of quality local music you might want to check it out. It is available in the Google Play Store and also the same features are available on the OyOsMusic website. The app was created with the artist in mind and thus is aimed at giving back. All tracks go for a dollar on the app and oh yeah, any payment method you can think of... they’ve got it.

2. My Events – Recently launched on the 21st of June this year, the app aims at keeping up with all the events happening in the nation. The app gives one the option of being a consumer or a “broadcaster” and basically you can notify people about an event you’re hosting or just see the top events going on in the country, your city or neighborhood. The app was developed by Kholwani Mabhena in Bulawayo and he has channeled efforts into getting rid of the hassle of keeping up with one specific person at a time and merge them all to create a community that is accessible to all. The app is fairly recent and could do better as people get to know about it and it is available on their website through this link which is the best place you might want to download it from, however it is set to be a great innovation once it gains traction.

3. 263Chat – Zimbabwe’s very own social network. The app was developed by the media company which bears the same name and is headed and developed by Sir Nigel who is also a popular Twitter user under the handle @SirNige. Again, the app is available on the Play Store but will only require a small purchase of $0.83. It is a great way of integrating the Zimbabwean community. It has been around for quite some time and you might find it quite enjoyable if you use it for a while.

So here is the list of the country’s finest. I recommend that you try all these apps and help develop these local talents’ products. You never know, they might be the next best consumer destinations of the future.
