What is 5G and how can I get it?

For the majority of us who have smart phones, it is probably great news to hear that soon, developers will be launching a new 5G internet speed which promises to pack more for people who manage to get their hands on it. The new 5G is more than just transferring heaps of data to and from your phone as fast as possible. The new internet coverage is set to incorporate all kinds of gadgets including self-driving vehicles, virtual reality, augmented reality, delivery drones and a bunch of interconnected devices in the home. 5G is set to shake the IT world upon its release.

Once it lands in a few years, speeds such as 10GB per second will no longer be unheard of. Imagine being able to download seasons upon seasons of your favorite series – in just seconds! You no longer have to fantasize streaming that 4K video onto your big screen; you can just do it! For smart home device enthusiasts, the new 5G system is made to make sure that all home devices can constantly interconnect to make sure you get the best user experience. Of course with this (to some) seems a bit too good to be true. You’re not entirely wrong and we should look over a few disclaimers first before you get all hyped.

Firstly, 5G is currently not supported by many mobile phones on this planet so chances are that you’ll have to get a new phone. Secondly, 5G will finally be perfected in 2020 so it’s going to be quite a while before we get to hold a phone in our hand written 5G on the top right corner. Also, 5G is very short range, so if you have hopes that it will be made a nationwide thing, it will also be quite a while. It is going to require several antennas to make the whole thing work and transfer the waves effectively. Overall, for what is being promised and within the given time, it’s worth the wait.
